KUALA LUMPUR – Several Good Samaritans have taken to social media to offer free rides to city dwellers affected by the week-long LRT service suspension.

Using the trending hashtags #LRTDOWN and #RakyatJagaRakyat, the netizens called out for to those who wished to carpool.

This comes after operator RapidRail Sdn Bhd announced a sudden seven-day closure of the 16 LRT stations between Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park, which has left thousands of Klang Valley commuters fuming.

One Twitter user, Asyraf, who carries the handle @_acapASYRAF, said he was extending help to LRT users who need transportation from the Sri Rampai and Wangsa Maju area to the city.

“I can send (you) to KLCC or KL Sentral,” he said in a post which has gone viral.

“I am not working now, so I have a lot of free time. Don’t worry about payment, I’m rich. It’s free.”

Another user who goes by the name mallu papi offered rides from Bandar Seri Permaisuri to KL Sentral at around 6pm yesterday.

“For those just seeing this, lmk (let me know) if you need a free ride back home for tomorrow or even Friday at 5-6pm.”

“I work nearby KL Sentral and I don't mind carpooling ✌?my dms (direct messages) are open.”

Twitter user Paxton (@xafri97) used #LRTdown to reach out to those struggling with transportation.

“If anyone (is) working at (the) Bangsar South area and needs a ride home to Sg Buloh. Just slide into my DM.

“I’m happy to help everyone to ease their journey dalam mencari rezeki (in making a living).”

The offers for help extended as far as Ijok, where Twitter user Momof3boys is offering car space from the Selangor district to Tun Razak Exchange in the city.

Meanwhile, Ain Zubaidah said she has space for those who want to head from Universiti Malaya to the Taman Melati LRT station after 4pm on weekdays.

She also said she prioritises women passengers.

Yesterday, Prasarana president and group CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said the exact cause of the crisis behind the LRT Kelana Jaya line service disruption, which had left Klang Valley commuters stranded in the past several days, has yet to be pinpointed.

The admission comes after the company’s engineers could not diagnose the issue affecting the services’ automated train system following several disruptions since Saturday.

Additionally, to the required major diagnostics, Azharuddin also announced an intervention by the rail system’s original equipment manufacturer, namely the Thales Group, to help resolve the situation.

Yesterday, Rapid Rail said a total of more than 100 free buses would be provided to commuters to ease their travel following the week-long service suspension.

This comes after the Selangor government offered 20 buses from its Smart Bus fleet. – The Vibes, November 10, 2022
